Sidi Diarra is 30 years old and comes from Mauretania. Two years ago, he followed the civic integration programme at bon. In the spring of 2012, Sidi followed a stage technician assistant introductory programme. And in June 2012, he was given the opportunity to do an internship at the KVS. For three weeks, he was part of the technical team and could, among other things, provide light and sound for Fabrizio Cassol’s fantastic opera.
Sidi: “My internship at the KVS was truly a great experience. In Mauretania, I had already worked with the camera and on stage technique, but I had never seen such technical and sophisticated infrastructure. I have learned a lot. In September, I started with the official stage technique training. Of course I have to keep working really hard on my Dutch, which is why I am also taking Dutch classes twice a week.”
The community centre De Pianofabriek organises the stage technique training in collaboration with the VDAB and Actiris. The programme is set up to allow jobseekers with a limited knowledge of the Dutch language (entry level 2.1) to acquire a basic knowledge of stage technique and to activate practical language skills. Afterwards, participants with sufficient knowledge of the Dutch language can follow the complete one-year-long stage technique training.
